Attract – Unify – Purpose

What is my purpose?

The first, Magnetic moon is the moment when we naturally, effortlessly attract our purpose for the entire 13 Moon year. We are magnetic, drawing to ourselves exactly what’s next in the destiny plan from the divine. The insights we receive are exciting and to brush up against this new vitality is thrilling, reassuring. Maybe we have waited with a clear sense of our purpose, and it’s finally arriving in force. Maybe we have had no idea, have been aimless, and now it catches us by surprise but feels exactly right. There is an intensity to this moon, the arrival of purposefulness, the push-pull engagement of magnetism that we played with as children organizing alphabet letters along the front of the refrigerator.

The Magnetic moon reflects a single dot in the Mayan numeric system, what we would call ‘one’. It was once a stone or a cacao seedpod, and still represents all that mineral or protein-rich density. A seed holds within it the ultimate unfurling of a whole flower, or tree. In the Magnetic moon we have the same potential, the inevitable bloom. We get a sense of the future, maybe, from the plant the one dot fell from, but we cannot rush the process of growth into fruit. We need all the influences of nature – sun, moon, water, wind – and the animals that enhance or interfere. We will have visitations from these 20 primal aspects held in the Tzolkin, interwoven with the 13 Moons each day, to further the fruition. Right now we are condensed matter, aware of our raw power, our instinctual hunger to strive; as urgent as it feels to explode our compressed energy, it’s good to slow down and feel into the intensity, the density of this starting point. Later in the year you may be comparatively thinned out, wasted.

A great Native American spiritual doctrine is the image of the earth as Turtle Island, and the Maya revered the symbiosis of the 13 Moon calendar’s primary numbers – 13 and 28 – being captured in the scales of a tortoise shell. When we travel through 13 moons, we can do it at a turtle’s careful, plodding pace, as in the race against the hare where it ultimately, resolutely prevails. If we perceive what a year actually means – the planet earth orbiting the sun, an arc touching on edges of other star clusters, gaining different vantages outward at the greater cosmos – we can honor our own parallel journey on a soul level. There will be so much ground covered, so many experiences integrated along the way, that we can’t, at this outset, be in a hurry.

Instead, watch what is opening to you, in you, and take good notes. Your purpose is arriving, and if you can feel its hold on you, you will have an easier time following the signs to its outward, societal manifestation over the coming year. In a 13 Moon wavespell, we don’t start the year with a list of resolutions. We don’t ‘set an intention’; we don’t make a prayer for abundance because in summer harvest and heat we are already endowed with it; and we don’t expect a lot of instant manifestation. We practice receptivity, trust and humility, the willingness to be given guidance and follow its lead through the labyrinth of the solar year.
